About Everyday California
Everyday California was co-founded in 2010 by Chris Lynch and Michael Samer, two college graduates who launched discounted adventure tours out of an old pickup truck during the Great Recession before opening a tiny storefront on Avenida de la Playa. That scrappy start-up has grown into La Jolla's most recognisable watersports and lifestyle brand, with a flagship shop three blocks from La Jolla Shores that rents kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, surfboards, snorkel gear, boogie boards, and wetsuits for exploring the La Jolla Ecological Reserve — one of only two percent of the world's ocean protected by state and federal law.
Guided tours are the main draw. The signature kayak tour paddles through the ecological reserve and into the La Jolla sea caves with all gear and a knowledgeable guide included, while the kayak-and-snorkel combo dives deeper into the kelp forests where leopard sharks, garibaldi, sea lions, and bat rays thrive. A seasonal whale watching kayak tour runs during the winter grey whale migration, and surf and SUP lessons cater to beginners looking to catch their first wave at one of Southern California's most forgiving breaks. All tours welcome guests as young as five with no prior experience required.
What makes Everyday California unique is the lifestyle ecosystem built around the adventure business. The company designs and manufactures its own surf-inspired apparel line — carried at nearly one hundred retail locations including Urban Outfitters — and produces a reef-safe mineral sunscreen with a portion of proceeds going to environmental nonprofits. As a 1% for the Planet member, the brand has donated over one hundred thousand dollars to organisations like Surfrider Foundation and GreenWave. A collaboration with Mission Brewing produces the Coastal Blonde Ale available across San Diego taprooms, adding a post-paddle pint to the experience.
