About Far Flung Adventures
Far Flung Adventures is the Rio Grande's most established whitewater outfitter, running guided rafting trips through the dramatic canyons north of Taos since 1982. Their home base on the Paseo del Pueblo Sur serves as the launch point for half-day, full-day, and multi-day expeditions on some of the most scenic whitewater in the American Southwest.
Their trip menu covers the full spectrum of difficulty. The mellow Orilla Verde section is perfect for families and first-timers floating through cottonwood-lined canyons, while the Taos Box — a Class III-IV run through an 800-foot-deep basalt gorge — is one of the iconic whitewater stretches in the West. They also run the Racecourse section for intermediate paddlers and overnight camping trips that combine river time with riverside meals cooked by their guides.
Far Flung's guides are some of the most experienced on the Rio Grande, many with 15-plus years on these specific stretches. The company's safety record is excellent, and their knowledge of local geology, wildlife, and history turns each trip into something more than just a thrill ride. They provide all gear including wetsuits for the cold spring runoff season.
