About Finikia Horse Riding
Finikia Horse Riding is a family-run equestrian centre near Hersonissos that has been welcoming riders to the Cretan mountains since 1987. Founded by the Karagiorgas family, the stables sit in the hilltop village of Finikia overlooking the north coast, offering horseback tours that combine scenic riding with traditional Cretan hospitality — every tour finishes with a full homemade Greek lunch at the farm.
The main offering is a day tour that includes hotel pickup, a riding lesson at the farm, and a roughly 90-minute ride through mountain trails with a break at a panoramic summit viewpoint. Riders of all experience levels are accommodated, from complete beginners to confident equestrians, with gentle horses matched to each guest. For non-riders, a horse-drawn wagon option lets them enjoy the scenery alongside the group. A maximum weight allowance of 110 kilograms applies.
What makes Finikia special is the family atmosphere and the setting. The Karagiorgas family treats every guest like a visitor to their home, with fresh juice at the mountaintop stop and a feast of traditional dishes waiting back at the farm. The views from the trails stretch across the Giouchtas Mountains and down to the Cretan Sea, making it one of the most photogenic riding experiences on the island. Nearly four decades of continuous operation speaks to the quality and consistency of the experience.
