About Freedive Gili
Freedive Gili is Indonesia's original and first freediving centre, founded in 2008 on Gili Trawangan by 18-time UK National Record holder Michael Board. Just under two hours from Bali, it has spent more than 16 years turning the calm, clear waters off Lombok's Gili Islands into one of Asia's premier destinations to learn and train in breath-hold diving.
The school teaches the full progression of courses — Level 1 for complete beginners through Levels 2 and 3, plus specialty courses, React Right first aid and CPR, and a complete instructor pathway including crossovers, all certified through Molchanovs and SSI. Daily sessions mix pool training, open-water dives at coral reef sites and video analysis of technique, and dedicated week-long and Master programs cater to divers chasing depth. Twice-daily yoga, on-site accommodation, a café and a spacious dive boat with beach pickup make it a genuine freediving retreat.
With beginner courses starting every day and coaching that scales all the way to elite athletes, Freedive Gili suits anyone from a curious traveller wanting their first taste of freediving to competitors refining their edge. Its pioneering history, record-holding founder and supportive, welcoming community have made it a landmark of the sport in Indonesia.
