About Go Ride A Wave Lorne
Go Ride A Wave is one of Australia's longest-running surf schools, established in 1987, and its Lorne base sits right on the town's sheltered Main Beach in the heart of the Great Ocean Road. The Loutit Bay break is a consistent, beginner-friendly stretch of coast, which makes Lorne a natural home for the school's daily learn-to-surf programs through the warmer months.
The Lorne operation runs group and private surf lessons that include a full-length wetsuit, a soft beginner surfboard and two hours of instruction in waist-deep water with qualified coaches. Alongside lessons they offer beach hire — soft surfboards, bodyboards, stand-up paddleboards and wetsuits — so visitors can keep practising once the lesson ends or simply paddle the calm bay at their own pace.
What keeps Go Ride A Wave a fixture on this coast is its safety-first reputation and nearly four decades of teaching first-timers. Coaches are accredited, group sizes are kept manageable, and the calm Loutit Bay setting means nervous beginners and families get a gentle introduction to the surf rather than being thrown into heavy waves.
