About Gone Whale Watching
Gone Whale Watching operates a premium small-boat whale watching experience out of Mission Bay, departing from the dock in front of Sportsmen's Seafood on Quivira Road. Their fleet includes intimate 6-passenger rigid inflatable boats and a 40-passenger high-speed power catamaran, both designed to sit low on the water and get closer to marine life than the large tour boats can.
They run year-round tours targeting grey whales (December–April), blue whales and fin whales (summer), and dolphins, sea lions, and other marine life in all seasons. Both public and private charters are available, with trips typically lasting 2–3 hours. Their low-profile vessels virtually eliminate seasickness and travel at speeds over 30 mph, meaning less time cruising and more time with the animals.
What sets Gone Whale Watching apart is the intimacy of the experience — on the 6-passenger boats, you are practically at eye level with the whales, which is a completely different encounter than watching from the deck of a 150-person cruise ship. Their naturalist guides provide running commentary and help spot wildlife, and they maintain a strong sighting record backed by a whale guarantee.
