About Great Marsh Kayak Tours
Great Marsh Kayak Tours offers guided paddling adventures through some of Cape Cod's most pristine tidal marsh ecosystems, launching from Hemenway Landing in Eastham and public landings in Orleans. Their tours explore the vast Nauset Marsh system — part of the Cape Cod National Seashore — and the Namskaket Marsh on the bay side, both designated Areas of Critical Environmental Concern teeming with herons, ospreys, seals, and horseshoe crabs.
Each tour is led by a naturalist guide who tailors the pace and route to the group's experience level, from first-time paddlers to seasoned kayakers. Standard tours run two to two-and-a-half hours through winding tidal channels, past barrier beach sand dunes, and into shallow tidal flats where you can step out and explore. They provide all equipment including stable sit-on-top kayaks, paddles, PFDs, and dry bags. Sunset and full-moon paddle options add a magical dimension during summer months.
What makes Great Marsh stand out is the ecological depth of the experience — these aren't just paddle-and-go outfits. Guides share insights on salt marsh ecology, migratory bird patterns, tidal dynamics, and the geological forces that shaped the Outer Cape. The small group sizes (typically six to eight kayaks) keep the experience intimate and allow guides to point out wildlife that larger groups would spook or miss entirely.
