About Jackson Hole Mountain Guides
Jackson Hole Mountain Guides — now operating under the name The Mountain Guides — is an AMGA-accredited guide service based on South Highway 89 in Jackson. Originally founded as a local Teton climbing school, the operation has grown into one of the most respected guiding companies in the American West, with programmes spanning rock climbing, alpine mountaineering, backcountry skiing, and avalanche education across Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado.
In the Tetons, they offer introductory rock climbing days, multi-pitch cragging, Grand Teton summit attempts, and technical alpine routes for experienced climbers. Winter and spring programming includes backcountry ski touring, AIARE avalanche courses, and ice climbing in the canyons around Jackson. Private guiding is available for any objective, and they run scheduled group courses with fixed dates throughout the season.
The team's strength is its certification depth — guides hold AMGA Rock, Alpine, and Ski credentials, and many are internationally certified through the IFMGA. That professionalism extends to their avalanche education programme, which trains hundreds of backcountry skiers and riders each winter. Whether you are stepping onto rock for the first time or planning a technical alpine objective, their guide roster has someone who has done it before.
