About Los Rios River Runners
Los Rios River Runners has been guiding whitewater trips on the Rio Grande since 1982, making them one of the longest-running rafting operations in northern New Mexico. Based in Taos, they specialise in half-day and full-day adventures through the stunning canyon landscapes that define this stretch of the Rio Grande.
Their trip offerings span the full difficulty range. The Pilar Racecourse provides a solid half-day of Class II-III rapids ideal for beginners and families, while the legendary Taos Box delivers Class III-IV whitewater through a deep volcanic gorge that feels worlds away from civilisation. They also offer mellow scenic floats on the Lower Gorge for those who prefer to take in the landscape without the white knuckles. Combination packages pair morning rafting with afternoon activities.
Los Rios prides itself on guide quality — many of their team have been running the Rio Grande for over a decade and bring deep knowledge of the river's moods across seasons. Spring snowmelt brings the biggest water, while summer offers warmer, more relaxed conditions. Their downtown Taos check-in location makes logistics simple for visitors staying in town.
