About Mad River Boat Trips
Mad River Boat Trips has been running whitewater and scenic float trips on the Snake River since 1977. Based out of their distinctive riverside boathouse — the Mad River Wedge — two miles south of Jackson Town Square on Highway 89, they are one of the most recognised rafting outfitters in the valley. The Wedge houses a check-in desk, river museum, and outfitters shop where guests can gear up before hitting the water.
Summer offerings include an eight-mile whitewater run through Snake River Canyon with Class III rapids, a calmer scenic float with Teton views ideal for younger children, and combination packages that pair a morning float with an afternoon canyon run. All trips include PFDs, splash gear, and a guided safety orientation. They also run sunrise and sunset departures to catch the best wildlife viewing light along the river corridor.
Mad River stands out for its family-friendly approach and strong community roots. The operation has been locally owned for nearly five decades, and many of their guides return season after season. Their location between Whole Grocer and Smith's makes them easy to find, and their river museum gives guests a look at the history of Snake River boating before they even get wet.
