About McKevlin's Surf Shop
McKevlin's Surf Shop is the longest-running surf shop in South Carolina, founded in 1965 on Folly Beach's Center Street. For over half a century, the shop has been the heartbeat of Charleston's surf community — the place where locals check the morning report, grab a fresh bar of wax, and swap stories about the latest swell.
McKevlin's carries a curated selection of surfboards, bodyboards, wetsuits, and beach accessories from top brands, and rents surfboards at $40 per 24 hours and bodyboards at $25 per 24 hours. While they don't run surf lessons directly, the staff connects visitors with trusted local instructors for private and group sessions. The shop also runs a surfboard consignment program for buying and selling used boards, and supports local environmental causes through The Beach Project.
McKevlin's is more than a retail shop — it's a Folly Beach institution. They were the first South Carolina surf shop to run a call-in surf report, the first to stock tri-fin boards, and the first to carry epoxy surfboards. That pioneering spirit, combined with decades of community roots, makes McKevlin's the definitive stop for anyone surfing the Charleston coast.
