About Ober Mountain
Ober Mountain is Gatlinburg's iconic ski area and Tennessee's only ski resort, doubling as a year-round adventure park perched at 2,813 feet above sea level on Ski Mountain Road. The resort has been accessible since 1973 via the Gatlinburg Aerial Tram — a 2.1-mile, 1,472-vertical-foot ride in 120-passenger cable cars that departs every 20 minutes from downtown. Winter visitors can rent skis, snowboards, and snow-tubing gear to hit the slopes, try the 350-foot tubing track with its Magic Carpet conveyor, or lace up for the ice skating rink and ice bumper cars.
When the snow melts, Ober Mountain transforms into a full-blown amusement and adventure destination. The Tennessee Flyer Mountain Coaster rockets riders along a 3,750-foot track at speeds up to 25 mph, the Smoky Mountain Bobsled (alpine slide) sends guests down an 1,800-foot descent with individual speed control, and the Cloud Catcher Zipline features three parallel lines totaling over 6,700 feet at elevations above 3,400 feet. Add in a rock climbing wall, jump pillow, carousel, chair swings, downhill mountain biking, summer tubing, and a wildlife habitat, and there is genuinely something for every age and thrill level.
On-mountain dining options include Alpine Slice Co. for pizza, Fiddle & Pick for barbecue, and Slope Side for full meals, plus the Sugar Shack for treats and Yee-Haw craft beer. Fun Pass and Adventure Pass bundles let visitors mix and match activities without buying individual tickets, and ski and snowboard lesson packages make the winter season approachable for complete beginners. As the only four-season mountain resort in the Tennessee Smokies, Ober Mountain remains the one attraction in Gatlinburg that delivers a completely different experience depending on when you visit.
