About Puntas Surf School
Puntas Surf School is a family-owned surf school located in the Barrio Puntas neighbourhood of Rincon, the undisputed surfing capital of the Caribbean. Founded by Melissa Taylor — the longest-standing surf instructor in Rincon, teaching since 2002 — the school operates year-round on the west coast breaks that put Puerto Rico on the international surfing map. Their beachfront location on Road 413 gives direct access to some of the best learner-friendly waves on the island.
They offer private and group surf lessons for beginners through advanced surfers, with all boards, rash guards, and reef shoes included. Lessons are tailored to conditions and skill level — beginners start on gentle inside breaks while intermediate and advanced surfers are guided to reef breaks and point breaks that deliver overhead waves during the winter swell season. Board rentals are available for experienced surfers who want to paddle out on their own.
