About Seabrook Island Equestrian Center
Seabrook Island Equestrian Center is one of the only places on the entire East Coast where visitors can ride horses directly on the beach. Located on Seabrook Island about 30 minutes south of downtown Charleston, the centre maintains a stable of 11 horses and offers guided trail rides, beach rides, and pony experiences on a private barrier island setting.
Their signature beach ride heads out at low tide for an hour-long guided excursion along three miles of undeveloped shoreline — an experience you simply can't get anywhere else near Charleston. Scenic trail rides cover the island's interior maritime forest, tidal marshes, and Drake Pond, mostly under shade canopy. Pony rides for younger children are also available. All rides are guided, with a 240-pound rider weight limit, and advance reservations are required.
What sets Seabrook Island Equestrian Center apart is the exclusivity and natural beauty of the setting. The island is a private residential community with strictly limited public access, so the trails and beaches feel uncrowded and pristine. For visitors looking for a unique outdoor experience beyond the usual kayak-and-paddleboard offerings, beach horseback riding is hard to top.
