About Shasta Mountain Guides
Shasta Mountain Guides is the original climbing guide service on Mount Shasta, leading expeditions and mountaineering courses on the 14,179-foot stratovolcano for more than 40 years. Operating out of downtown Mount Shasta City, they hold permits across the mountain and run trips on the classic Avalanche Gulch route as well as more technical lines on the West Face, Hotlum-Bolam Ridge, and Casaval Ridge.
Their program covers the full spectrum of alpine objectives: two- and three-day guided summit climbs, dedicated mountaineering skills courses, ski mountaineering descents in spring, and custom private expeditions. Every trip is supported with professionally certified guides, group equipment, and instruction in cramponing, ice axe self-arrest, glacier travel, and high-altitude movement, making it an ideal stepping stone toward bigger international peaks.
What sets Shasta Mountain Guides apart is their decades of accumulated knowledge of the mountain's ever-changing conditions and a guide-to-client ratio focused on safety and summit success. As one of the longest-running outfitters in the region, they have introduced thousands of climbers to glaciated alpine terrain and remain the benchmark for guided mountaineering on Mount Shasta.
