About SWS Mountain Guides
SWS Mountain Guides has been one of California's leading mountain guide services since 1981, with a home base in Mount Shasta City and additional offices serving Mount Whitney and the High Sierra. The company guides climbers on Mount Shasta's standard and technical routes and uses the peak as a training ground for alpinists preparing for objectives around the world.
Their Mount Shasta offerings include two- and three-day summit climbs via Avalanche Gulch, multi-day mountaineering seminars, west-side and ridge route ascents, and spring ski-mountaineering programs. Trips are run by experienced, certified guides and include the technical instruction — self-arrest, crampon technique, roped travel, and altitude management — that beginners need to safely reach the top of a glaciated 14er.
With more than four decades of operation and a guiding footprint that spans Shasta, Whitney, and international expeditions, SWS Mountain Guides brings deep institutional experience to every trip. Their long tenure on the mountain and emphasis on skills development make them a trusted choice for first-time mountaineers and seasoned climbers chasing harder lines alike.
