Sheldon Air Service carries one of the most storied names in Alaska aviation. The company traces its lineage to legendary bush pilot Don Sheldon, a pioneer of Denali glacier flying, and is run today by his family from the Talkeetna State Airport. It combines that history with modern aircraft to deliver flightseeing tours across the Alaska Range and Denali National Park.
Their tour lineup ranges from short scenic hops to extended Denali circumnavigations, with glacier landings available on the Ruth and other icefields. A signature offering is the trip to the historic Sheldon Mountain House, a remote alpine hut perched on a nunatak in the Ruth Amphitheater that Don Sheldon built in the 1960s. Guests can fly in for a night surrounded by some of the most dramatic glacier scenery on the continent.
