About Skagway Float Tours
Skagway Float Tours is an independent, family-run adventure company owned and operated by Cris Siegel and Katie Leonetti since 1997. Based on the Taiya River out in the historic Dyea valley just outside Skagway, they specialize in gentle scenic float trips and combination hike-and-float excursions through some of the most storied terrain of the Klondike Gold Rush.
Their guided raft floats drift down the calm, glacially fed Taiya River past rainforest, wetlands, and the ghost-town remains of Dyea, with excellent chances to spot bald eagles, bears, and other wildlife along the banks. The popular Hike and Float pairs a guided walk on the lower Chilkoot Trail — the famous stampeders' route — with a relaxing raft trip back, making it a well-rounded half-day of history and nature suited to all ages.
With nearly three decades of local ownership, Skagway Float Tours is prized for its unhurried, story-rich guiding style and small groups. This is a mellow, family-friendly water experience rather than a whitewater thrill ride, and the owner-guides' intimate knowledge of Dyea's Gold Rush past is what sets the trips apart.
