About South Surf School
South Surf School is a dedicated surf school based at Playa Hermosa in Uvita, on Costa Rica's South Pacific coast, teaching visitors of every ability to ride the region's consistent, beginner-friendly beach breaks. The school is built around ISA-certified surf instructors, and it runs a tight, personal operation focused on getting first-timers standing up quickly while helping intermediate surfers refine their technique.
Lessons come in three formats to suit different needs: group lessons for a social, affordable introduction; semi-private lessons with a smaller ratio and digital photos of your session; and fully private three-hour lessons that include beach chairs, umbrella shade, sunscreen and a set of action photos. Every lesson includes soft-top board use, a rashguard, and fresh fruit and water, and the school also rents boards to independent surfers and arranges guided surf trips to nearby breaks along the coast. They operate seven days a week from early morning to late afternoon.
