About Sunset Kidd Sailing Cruises
Sunset Kidd Sailing Cruises operates a 41-foot sailing yacht out of a slip on Harbor Way in Santa Barbara Harbor. The boat spent 34 years cruising the Caribbean, the Florida Keys and the Gulf of Mexico before settling on the California coast, and it now runs daily public sails and private charters along the American Riviera waterfront.
Public trips include two-hour daytime coastal sails, sunset cruises timed to the light dropping behind the Santa Ynez range, seasonal whale watching sails, and full moon cruises. Private charters take up to 16 passengers and are used for birthdays, proposals, ash scatterings and small corporate groups. Guests are welcome to take a turn at the helm or help trim sails, and the crew is happy to keep it hands-off for anyone who would rather sit back with a drink.
What keeps Sunset Kidd distinct from the bigger boats on the waterfront is the scale. Sixteen guests on a 41-foot monohull under sail is a quieter, closer experience than a 100-plus passenger catamaran, and with the engine off you hear the water rather than the diesel. Guests may bring their own food and drink aboard, which makes it a popular choice for groups who want to put together their own celebration on the water.
