About The Bait Shack
The Bait Shack is Anchorage's go-to fishing outfitter, strategically located at Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage — one of the most accessible urban salmon fisheries in the world. Founded in 2011 by U.S. Army veteran Dustin Slinker, The Bait Shack has grown from a small bait and tackle stand into a full-service fishing operation that makes it easy for visitors and locals alike to experience Alaska's legendary salmon runs without leaving the city.
Their services include full fishing gear rental packages with rods, reels, and waders, a complete bait and tackle shop, Alaska fishing license sales, and guided fishing excursions on Ship Creek and throughout the Anchorage Bowl. They also offer trips to hot spots on the Kenai Peninsula and up into the Mat-Su Valley for those looking to explore beyond the city. During peak season, king and silver salmon run right through downtown, and The Bait Shack puts you within casting distance of the action.
What sets The Bait Shack apart is the sheer convenience of the experience — you can walk from your downtown hotel, rent everything you need, and be fishing for wild Alaska salmon within minutes. Dustin and his team are passionate about introducing newcomers to the sport and go out of their way to help first-time anglers land their first fish. Their Ship Creek location also hosts community events like the annual Youth Fishing Day, cementing their role as a neighbourhood institution.
