About Tybee Surf Lessons
Tybee Surf Lessons is the island's dedicated surf school, teaching on the North End of Tybee Island near the jetty where gentle, consistent waves make an ideal classroom. Founded to bring fun, safe, and professional surf instruction to the Georgia coast, the school operates as a mobile outfit — instructors meet students at the North Beach parking lot boardwalk with all boards and equipment provided.
Lesson options cover beginner group sessions, private one-on-one coaching, and multi-day surf camps for kids during the summer. Every lesson includes land instruction on pop-ups, paddling, and ocean safety before students hit the water, and soft-top boards suited to each rider's size are included in the price. All ages and skill levels are welcome, from five-year-olds catching their first whitewater to adults finally checking surfing off the list.
The North End location is the school's quiet advantage. While the busy South Beach crowds swim near the pier, lessons run on an uncrowded stretch with mellow jetty-protected waves — forgiving for beginners and free of swimmer traffic. Combined with instructors who have taught in Hawaii and bring genuine coaching craft rather than just a board and a push, most first-timers stand up in their very first session.
