About Wanaka Paragliding
Wanaka Paragliding operates tandem paragliding flights from Treble Cone's Pub Corner launch site, perched 1,100 metres above sea level — the highest summer tandem launch point in New Zealand. The flight path drops 800 metres over the Matukituki Valley, delivering sweeping views of Lake Wanaka, waterfalls, and the surrounding mountain peaks throughout the 10- to 20-minute airborne experience.
All flights are led by fully qualified, Civil Aviation Authority-certified tandem pilots with extensive local knowledge. No previous experience is needed — passengers are briefed on the ground, take a short run to launch, and then sit back while the pilot handles the canopy. Photo and video packages are available so guests can relive the flight. The entire outing takes about an hour from the meeting point at the base of Treble Cone Road to the landing field beside the car.
Wanaka Paragliding stands out for its exclusive high-altitude launch, intimate small-group format, and the sheer drama of the Matukituki Valley approach. Strong thermals and reliable mountain winds mean flights run most days from late spring through autumn, and the operators maintain a consistently high safety record and top-tier guest reviews.
