About Whakapapa Ski Area

Whakapapa is the ski area at the top of Bruce Road on Mt Ruapehu, in Tongariro National Park, about 20 minutes up from National Park Village. Whakapapa Holdings 2024 Ltd runs it on a 10-year concession from 2025.

It sells lift passes and runs two rental shops, one at the base area upstairs above Lorenz's Bar & Cafe and one at Happy Valley, the beginner area. Executive Rentals adds Nordica and Blizzard skis, and Snow School runs private and group lessons.

In summer the Sky Waka gondola carries sightseers up to Knoll Ridge Chalet. The 2026 winter ran from 30 May to 25 October, and 2027 season passes are on sale.
