About Whale Safari Iceland
Whale Safari Iceland is Reykjavik's original small-group whale watching operator, specialising in high-speed RIB (rigid inflatable boat) tours that get passengers closer to the whales than traditional large vessels. Operating from Aegisgarour 5D at the Old Harbour, the company runs the largest RIB fleet in Iceland with four purpose-built Thruma (Thunder) boats.
Tours run from April through October with multiple daily departures, covering whale watching in Faxafloi Bay, puffin island visits, and combination wildlife excursions. Winter months bring Northern Lights by boat cruises. The RIB format limits group sizes to around 12 passengers, creating a more personal experience with closer wildlife encounters. Warm overalls and flotation suits are provided to keep guests comfortable on the open water.
The company also operates a second base in Akureyri in northern Iceland, running RIB whale watching tours in Eyjafjordur where humpback whale sightings are particularly reliable. Their Reykjavik operation has built a strong reputation for high sighting rates and energetic guides who balance speed and excitement with responsible wildlife observation practices.
