About Whitecap Kayak
Whitecap Kayak is a National Park Service-authorized guide service permitted to lead kayaking trips throughout the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Based near Bayfield, they offer a range of paddling experiences from half-day sea cave tours to multi-day island-hopping camping expeditions, all led by guides who carry some of the highest ACA certifications of any outfitter in the region.
Their half-day trips launch from Meyers Beach and paddle along the mainland sea caves, while full-day excursions venture to more remote sections of the lakeshore. For adventurous paddlers, Whitecap offers overnight camping trips to Sand Island, Stockton Island, and other destinations within the National Lakeshore, with all camping and paddling gear provided. Custom trip planning is available for groups who want to design their own itinerary.
Whitecap stands out for the calibre of their guides — every trip leader holds advanced ACA certifications and has significant open-water rescue training, which matters on Lake Superior where conditions can shift rapidly. Their small group policy, typically six paddlers per guide, ensures close attention to safety and technique, making them a strong choice for both first-time kayakers and experienced paddlers looking to push into more challenging waters.
