About Big Bear Watersports School
Big Bear Watersports School is the lake's dedicated towed-watersports academy, teaching wakeboarding, waterskiing, and wakesurfing from its base at Pine Knot Marina in the heart of Big Bear Lake village. Run by experienced coaches who spend their summers on the water, the school caters to total beginners taking their first ride as well as intermediate riders looking to land new tricks.
Sessions are run from a dedicated inboard wake boat with an experienced driver and instructor aboard, so students get coaching, spotting, and the right boat speed dialed in for their skill level. The school offers private and small-group lessons in wakeboarding, waterskiing, wakesurfing, and tubing, with all equipment — boards, skis, wetsuits, and life vests — provided. Lessons are sold in timed blocks, making it easy to book a quick introductory ride or a longer skills-building session.
What sets the school apart is its teaching-first approach: rather than simply renting gear, the team focuses on getting every guest up and riding confidently, often within a single session. Calm morning water on the alpine lake creates ideal learning conditions, and the patient, safety-minded coaching has made it a favorite for families wanting to introduce kids to watersports.
