About Blue Bay Divers
Blue Bay Divers is a specialist snorkelling and freediving tour operator based in Brunswick Heads, just 15 minutes north of Byron Bay. They run small-group half-day expeditions to Julian Rocks Marine Sanctuary — one of Australia's most biodiverse dive sites — with a focus on extended water time and genuine marine encounters rather than rushed, high-volume boat trips.
Their signature experience is the half-day snorkel safari, which includes a minimum of three and a half hours of actual snorkelling time at Julian Rocks. That's significantly more water time than most competitors offer. They also run freediving tours for experienced breath-hold divers, and seasonal whale swim encounters when conditions allow. All gear — wetsuits, masks, fins, and snorkels — is provided and included in the tour price.
Blue Bay Divers' advantage is the extended format and small group sizes, which mean you're not sharing the reef with 30 other snorkellers. Their guides know the site intimately and can find leopard sharks, wobbegongs, turtles, and ray species that casual visitors often miss. If you're after a deep, unhurried marine experience rather than a quick tick-the-box snorkel, this is the operator to choose.
