About Byron Bay Stand Up Paddle
Byron Bay Stand Up Paddle is a dedicated SUP school and rental operation based at Belongil Beach, one of Byron Bay's quieter northern beaches. They specialise in stand-up paddleboarding for all levels, from first-time beginners who have never stood on a board to experienced paddlers looking for downwind runs, SUP surfing, and long-distance touring. The Belongil location offers a mix of flat-water creek paddling and ocean conditions, allowing instructors to match the environment to the student's skill level.
Group and private lessons follow a progressive curriculum that covers board handling, paddle technique, balance, ocean safety, and wave riding for those who progress quickly. Their rental fleet includes a range of board shapes and sizes — stable beginner boards, performance touring boards for distance paddling, and surf-specific SUPs for experienced riders. Hourly, half-day, and multi-day rentals are available, with delivery to accommodation possible for longer hires. Equipment quality is excellent, with boards from well-known SUP brands kept in rotation and replaced regularly.
The school also runs guided SUP tours, including a popular dawn patrol session that launches before sunrise and catches the first light over Cape Byron lighthouse from the water — widely regarded as one of the most magical paddle experiences on the NSW coast. For fitness-focused visitors, SUP yoga and SUP fitness classes are offered on the calm morning waters of Belongil Creek. Byron Bay Stand Up Paddle has become one of the go-to paddleboarding operators in the region thanks to their expert instruction and prime beachfront location.
