About Pro Flyte Hang Gliding
Pro Flyte is the Northern Rivers' longest-running tandem hang gliding school, with over 40 years of experience launching from Cape Byron Nature Reserve and Lennox Head. Led by former Australian champion Peter Aitken, the operation specialises in introductory tandem flights that give first-timers the thrill of soaring above Australia's most easterly point without any prior experience.
Tandem flights depart from two launch sites depending on wind conditions — Cape Byron for northerly winds and Lennox Head for southerly — which means Pro Flyte can fly more days per year than almost any other hang gliding school in Australia. Each 20-to-30-minute flight includes a full safety briefing, harness fitting, running launch from the hillside, and a gentle beach landing. Guests fly in tandem with an experienced instructor and can spot dolphins, sea turtles, and humpback whales from the air during season.
Pro Flyte's safety record and Peter's competitive pedigree set them apart in a niche adventure sport. The dual launch sites mean fewer weather cancellations, and the aerial views of Cape Byron lighthouse, the Coral Sea, and the hinterland ranges are genuinely spectacular — it's consistently rated one of Byron Bay's top adrenaline experiences.
