About Jug Mountain Ranch
Jug Mountain Ranch is a premier recreation community just south of McCall, centred around an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Donald Knott, the former project architect for Robert Trent Jones II Group. Surrounded by towering ponderosa pines and meadow views, the course is public and open to visitors, ranking among the best mountain layouts in Idaho with its elevation-adjusted fairways, strategic bunkering, and panoramic sightlines toward the West Mountains.
Beyond golf, Jug Mountain has developed an extensive free-access trail network with 39 trails totalling miles of purpose-built singletrack for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running. Summer trails range from smooth, rolling beginner loops to fast, technical expert descents with jumps and berms, while winter brings fat biking on groomed trails plus a Nordic skiing network. Guided group rides run weekends from June through September, and the Clubhouse Restaurant and Bar serves post-ride meals and local craft beer.
What makes Jug Mountain Ranch special is the quality-to-cost ratio — world-class golf and professionally maintained mountain bike trails without resort-level pricing. The trail system is entirely free to ride, the golf green fees are a fraction of comparable courses, and the Clubhouse creates a welcoming gathering point where visiting cyclists, golfers, and hikers mix with the local McCall community over burgers and beers.
