About Kona Boys
Kona Boys is the Kona Coast's best-known paddle sports outfitter, running two locations: the original shop on Mamalahoa Highway above Kealakekua Bay, and the Beach Shack on Kamakahonu Bay beside Kailua Pier in downtown Kailua-Kona. Between the two, the company covers everything from self-guided rentals to fully guided cultural paddling experiences.
Rentals span single and double kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, surfboards, and snorkel gear, with racks, straps, and route advice included. Guided offerings are the heart of the operation: kayak-and-snorkel tours on Kealakekua Bay run under state permits, surf lessons launch from the sands of Kamakahonu where Hawaiian royalty once surfed, and traditional outrigger canoe experiences weave Hawaiian culture and history into a paddle along the Kona shoreline.
The crew's watermen roots and deep local knowledge set the tone — guides brief paddlers on conditions, reef etiquette, and the cultural significance of the places they visit, including the Captain Cook Monument across Kealakekua Bay. For visitors who want to explore Kona's coastline under their own power, with or without a guide, Kona Boys is the established first call.
