About Moab Cliffs & Canyons
Moab Cliffs & Canyons is the area's oldest climbing and canyoneering guide service, known locally as the Vertical Specialists — a title they have earned through decades of leading visitors safely up sandstone walls and down into the hidden slot canyons that make Moab one of the most extraordinary adventure destinations in North America. Their certified guides hold credentials from the American Mountain Guides Association and bring a combination of technical expertise and genuine passion for the desert landscape to every outing.
Rock climbing trips are available for all ability levels, from complete beginners who have never touched a rope to experienced climbers looking for multi-pitch challenges on the region's iconic desert towers. Half-day outings provide a thorough introduction to climbing technique on accessible sandstone walls, while full-day trips venture to more remote crags where the climbing is longer and the solitude is complete. The unique properties of Moab's Wingate and Navajo sandstone create climbing experiences unlike anything found in traditional granite or limestone areas.
Canyoneering is equally central to their operation. These trips combine rappelling, scrambling, swimming, and hiking through narrow slot canyons where the walls press close and shafts of light create otherworldly patterns on the sculpted rock. Beginner-friendly canyoneering descents introduce the sport in a low-pressure setting, while advanced trips involve multi-rappel sequences through more technical and remote canyons. The Via Ferrata experience offers a unique middle ground — a protected climbing route using fixed cables and iron rungs that provides exposure and excitement without requiring previous climbing experience.
Multi-day climbing programs are available for those who want to develop their skills progressively, moving from basic techniques to more challenging climbs over the course of several days with the same experienced guide. Private group adventures and corporate team-building outings round out the offerings.
