About Packer Expeditions
Packer Expeditions was founded in 1992 by Tim Bourcy and spent many years as Skagway's only dedicated hiking excursion company. Operating from a downtown base at 355 4th Avenue, they lead guided day hikes and glacier adventures deep into the Tongass National Forest and up to Laughton Glacier — remote backcountry that can only be reached by train or helicopter.
Their trips range from moderate rainforest and alpine hikes to demanding glacier treks, often combining a ride aboard the White Pass & Yukon Route railway or a helicopter flight with several hours of guided walking. Guests explore hanging glaciers, waterfalls, and high country with certified guides who supply trekking poles, safety gear, and expertise on the region's geology, plants, and Gold Rush history. Some itineraries add ice-country exploration and kayak or paddle elements for a full multi-sport day.
