About Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center
Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center, known locally as RMOC, is a multi-sport outfitter and paddling school based on Highway 285 south of Buena Vista. Since the 1980s it has combined guided whitewater trips with hands-on instruction, positioning itself as much a school as an adventure company for paddlers who want to build real skills on the Arkansas River.
RMOC guides half-day and full-day rafting trips through Browns Canyon and the surrounding Arkansas River sections, and rents stand-up paddleboards and inflatable kayaks for those who prefer to explore calmer water on their own. Its kayak school is a signature offering, with beginner-through-advanced courses, roll clinics and private coaching, and the company also runs rock climbing and rappelling trips on the granite around Buena Vista and the Collegiate Peaks.
The center's teaching focus is its calling card. Rather than one-off floats, RMOC is built for visitors who want to progress, whether learning to kayak, refining whitewater technique or trying climbing for the first time. Experienced instructors, a riverside outpost and a genuine multi-sport menu make it a standout for skill-building in the valley.
