About Wilderness Aware Rafting
Wilderness Aware Rafting has been guiding whitewater trips out of Buena Vista since 1976, making it one of the oldest and most decorated outfitters in the state. Operating from a spacious, solar-powered riverside facility on the highway between Buena Vista and Johnson Village, the company has twice been named Colorado's Company of the Year and holds a long track record of safe, well-run trips.
The outfitter runs half-day, full-day and multi-day expeditions on five Colorado rivers, including the classic Browns Canyon and the milder Arkansas River family sections close to town, as well as bigger multi-day journeys on the Gunnison, Dolores and Salt. Trips are graded for every ability, from splash-and-giggle floats for young families to challenging Class IV-V runs for thrill seekers. Wilderness Aware also pairs rafting with horseback rides and zipline tours for full-day combinations.
Decades of experience, a genuine commitment to sustainability and a professional guide team give Wilderness Aware its standing among Arkansas Valley operators. The riverside base makes logistics simple, and the range of trip lengths means groups can spend an afternoon or a week on the water without changing outfitters.
