About Saugatuck Dune Rides
Saugatuck Dune Rides has been carrying visitors over the sand hills above Lake Michigan since 1954, making it one of the longest-running attractions on the West Michigan shoreline. Open-air buggies climb, drop, and swerve through privately owned dunes on a 40-minute guided ride that mixes roller-coaster thrills with genuinely funny narration from the drivers.
The route winds through wooded backdunes and open sand bowls before topping out at overlooks with wide views of Lake Michigan and Goshorn Lake. Along the way, guides share the story of Singapore, the lumber-era town that was swallowed by the shifting sand in the late 1800s — a piece of local history most visitors have never heard.
Rides depart continuously throughout the day from the ticket office on Blue Star Highway, just north of downtown Saugatuck. The season runs from spring through fall, and the ride is family-friendly, with kids and grandparents equally likely to leave laughing. Reservations are recommended on summer weekends, when this is one of the busiest stops in the area.
