About Solstice Outdoors
Solstice Outdoors is a locally owned outdoor store and rental shop on Lake Shore Drive in Ashland, Wisconsin, sitting right on US Highway 2 just steps from Chequamegon Bay at the head of Lake Superior. The shop serves as the southern gateway outfitter for the Apostle Islands region, gearing up paddlers, cyclists, and skiers headed up the Bayfield peninsula.
Rentals span the full four-season menu: kayaks and stand-up paddleboards in summer — each with PFD and paddle included, launched straight from the shop's private sandy beach on the bay — plus daily bike and e-bike rentals for the area's rail trails and back roads. Come winter the fleet swaps to cross-country skis and snowshoes for the Chequamegon region's groomed trail networks. The retail floor stocks name-brand apparel and gear, and the shop is open seven days a week.
The private beach launch is the standout: renters carry a board or kayak a few steps and are on protected bay water immediately, no trailer or roof rack required. Add year-round hours, community paddle nights, and staff who ski and paddle these waters themselves, and Solstice has earned its place as Ashland's go-to gear stop.
