About Turnagain Kayak & Coffeehouse
Turnagain Kayak & Coffeehouse is a one-of-a-kind outfitter in the tiny community of Hope, Alaska — about 90 miles south of Anchorage on the scenic Turnagain Arm. Part kayak rental shop, part scratch bakery and coffee roastery, the operation combines world-class paddling access with fresh-roasted espresso and homemade pastries — a combination that's earned it a loyal following among both locals and road-trippers.
On the paddling side, Turnagain Kayak is a full outfitter renting kayaks, paddles, PFDs, tents, and other camping gear for self-guided trips on Turnagain Arm and the Kenai Peninsula waterways. They also provide ground transportation via passenger van and trailer from Anchorage, making remote put-ins accessible even without your own vehicle. Multi-day expedition gear packages are available for experienced paddlers heading into backcountry.
The Hope location is the magic ingredient — you're launching into some of the most dramatic tidal paddling water in North America, with glacier-carved fjords, beluga whale sightings, and mountain views in every direction. After a long day on the water, the coffeehouse serves as the perfect debrief spot with its wood-fired roaster and scratch kitchen. It's the kind of place you plan a whole trip around.
