About Absolute Sportfishing
Absolute Sportfishing is a salmon fishing charter based on Discovery Drive in Campbell River, the town that calls itself the Salmon Capital of the World. Captain Laurel Gareau runs the boat and brings more than 35 years of salmon fishing and over 20 years of guiding on these waters, and the charter holds a Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice award.
Trips run half-day, full-day and multi-day, with room for one to four anglers per boat and larger groups handled on request. Chinook, also called spring or king salmon, can be targeted year-round, while coho, chum, sockeye and pink salmon come through in their seasons. When the salmon are slow, bottom fishing for lingcod and rockfish is an option. The boat is a Pursuit sportfishing vessel, and all rods, reels, tackle and gear are supplied, so guests only need a BC tidal fishing license.
The charter handles the dull parts of the day too. The catch is cleaned and bagged for the trip home, and the route through the Inside Passage often turns up whales, eagles, seals and sea lions between bites. It is a good fit for families and first-time anglers as well as regulars chasing a big Chinook.
