About Campbell River Whale Watching
Campbell River Whale Watching and Adventure Tours runs its trips from E Dock at Discovery Harbour Marina in Campbell River. The company is owned by the Wei Wai Kum First Nation and operates in the traditional territories of the Kwakwaka'wakw, Coast Salish and K'omoks peoples. In February 2022 it acquired Discovery Marine Safaris, a long-running local operator, and the two now run as one fleet.
The tour list covers most of what brings visitors to this part of the coast: whale watching for humpbacks, orcas and Pacific white-sided dolphins, grizzly bear tours on the mainland inlets in the fall, eagle tours, and ocean rapids runs through the tidal passes. A kayak and whale combo splits the day between a guided paddle with a partner outfitter and a whale watching trip aboard the covered boat Wild 1. The company also offers fishing charters and photography tours, and the fleet includes the covered vessel T3 that came over in the merger.
The operation carries a long list of certifications, including Sustainable Tourism, Biosphere, Green Certified and CO2 Neutral, as well as Indigenous-owned status. For visitors who want a trip run by the people whose territory they are traveling through, it is a clear choice.
