About Strathcona Park Lodge
Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre sits on 160 acres of waterfront on Upper Campbell Lake, about 40 minutes west of Campbell River on the Gold River Highway and right at the edge of Strathcona Provincial Park. Jim and Myrna Boulding founded it in 1959, and it has been one of Canada's best-known outdoor education centers ever since.
The lodge runs as a multi-sport base. Guests can paddle kayaks and canoes on the lake, climb, take on the high ropes and zip lines, and hike straight from the property into the park. School programs and WYLD summer camps have brought students here for decades, and the lodge also hosts corporate retreats, reunions, sports teams and family stays. Lodging ranges from rustic cabins to resort-style rooms, with off-grid options and dedicated group buildings, plus on-site dining.
What sets the lodge apart is its focus on teaching. Programs are built around the Strathcona Circle, a set of values that includes environmental stewardship and challenge by choice, so people can push themselves at their own pace. For groups that want guided outdoor instruction and a place to sleep in one spot, there is little else like it on Vancouver Island.
