About Bergsteigerschule Zugspitze
Bergsteigerschule Zugspitze is the oldest mountain school in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, guiding guests through the peaks of the Wetterstein and beyond since 1969. With more than five decades of operation, it has become a regional institution, fielding a roster of state-certified mountain and ski guides who know every route to the Zugspitze summit intimately.
Its programme spans the full alpine calendar: guided Zugspitze ascents via the Höllental valley and its via ferrata, sport-climbing and rock-climbing courses, alpine training for summer and winter, ski-touring at every difficulty level, ice climbing, snowshoe outings and even multi-day Alps crossings. Beginners can enrol in structured courses that build skills step by step, while experienced mountaineers can book private guides for ambitious objectives such as the Jubiläumsgrat ridge. Small group sizes keep the ratio safe and the instruction personal.
What sets Bergsteigerschule Zugspitze apart is its longevity and the depth of its guiding talent, which includes government and police mountain guides among its instructors. For visitors who want to stand on the roof of Germany under the care of a certified professional, or to learn the fundamentals of alpine travel from a school that helped shape the local guiding tradition, it remains the first name many associate with Garmisch.
