About Columbia Icefield Adventure
The Columbia Icefield Adventure is one of Canada's most iconic glacier experiences, taking visitors onto the surface of the ancient Athabasca Glacier aboard massive Ice Explorer vehicles. Located along the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff, this Pursuit-operated attraction provides safe access to a 10,000-year-old glacier that is part of the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies.
The experience includes a ride in specially designed all-terrain Ice Explorers that descend onto the glacier surface, where guests can step out, touch ancient ice, and drink pure glacial meltwater. The adjacent Columbia Icefield Skywalk extends visitors over a cliff edge on a glass-floored observation platform 280 metres above the Sunwapta Valley, offering vertigo-inducing views of glaciers, peaks, and valleys. Interpretive guides explain glaciology, climate science, and the geological forces that shaped this landscape.
Operating since the 1950s, the Columbia Icefield Adventure is a bucket-list experience for visitors to the Canadian Rockies. The combination of glacier access (impossible without specialized vehicles) and the engineering marvel of the Skywalk creates a one-of-a-kind attraction that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually from around the world.
