About Kimar's Charters
Kimar's Charters fishes Lake Superior from Shelter Bay on M-28 in Au Train, midway between Munising and Marquette. A family business spanning four generations, it bills itself as the Upper Peninsula's oldest operating fishing charter and was the first to run clients out to the legendary Stannard Rock reef.
Trips target lake trout using trolling, jigging and casting techniques, with formats to match every appetite: half-day runs on Shelter Bay for families and first-timers, full-day trips to Big Reef, and the marathon offshore run to Stannard Rock — a remote reef some 40 miles out that produces trophy lake trout fishing found almost nowhere else on the Great Lakes. Rods, tackle and fish cleaning are handled by the crew, and the adjoining Kimar's Resort offers cabins on the water for anglers who want to stay where they launch.
Decades of logbooks on the same water give the captains an edge that shows in the cooler at the end of the day. The combination of a protected home bay, deep-water expertise and the Stannard Rock specialty makes Kimar's the benchmark charter operation on this stretch of the south shore.
