About Raincoast Education Society
The Raincoast Education Society is a non-profit environmental organisation based in Tofino, offering naturalist-guided walks, interpretive programmes, and community stewardship events throughout the Clayoquot and Barkley Sound region since 2000. Their guided experiences bring visitors face-to-face with the ecology, wildlife, and cultural history of the Pacific Rim in a way that pure adventure operators rarely match.
Public programmes include guided shoreline ecology walks where naturalists explain intertidal life, old-growth forest interpretation hikes, seasonal whale migration talks, storm-watching events with expert commentary, and summer nature camps for kids. They also run citizen science initiatives, habitat restoration projects, and school programmes that connect local students with the ecosystems around them.
For visitors who want more than a scenic walk — who want to understand the why behind the old-growth forests, the migrating grey whales, and the intertidal ecosystems — Raincoast Education Society delivers the most educational outdoor experiences in the Tofino region. Their naturalists are marine biologists, ecologists, and environmental educators, not just trail guides.
