About Sun Peaks Stables
Sun Peaks Stables has been offering horseback trail rides, riding lessons, and carriage and sleigh rides at the resort since 2013, conveniently located next to the Burfield chairlift at the entrance to Sun Peaks. Combining a deep love of horses with years of trail and sleigh experience, the stable has become a beloved fixture for families and non-skiers looking for a gentler way to explore the mountain landscape.
Summer trail rides run in small groups suitable for beginner to advanced riders, with a two-hour village ride and a four-hour mountain excursion offering serious saddle time. One-hour riding lessons cover grooming, horse care, and English-style basics in a dedicated ring near the Burfield stables. In winter, the horses pull a nine-passenger carriage on runners for magical sleigh rides through the snow, with a larger 20-passenger wagon available for bigger groups.
What makes Sun Peaks Stables truly distinctive is its herd — friendly, well-mannered Percheron Draft, Canadian Horse, and Gypsy Cob breeds, many of them rescue animals that the stable has rehabilitated and given a new life in the mountains. That commitment to ethical horse care, paired with knowledgeable guides and a scenic village-edge setting, makes every ride feel personal and meaningful.
