About 50 North Adventures
50 North Adventures is a small-boat charter company in Campbell River run by owner and guide Dean, who brings more than 25 years of tourism and marine experience. Trips leave from C Dock at Discovery Harbour Marina, a few minutes from the open water of Discovery Passage and the Salish Sea.
The menu covers salmon fishing charters for Chinook, coho, pink, sockeye and chum, whale watching trips for humpbacks and Bigg's orcas, and private boat charters built around what the group wants to do. Longer day tours head out to the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound. The boat is a covered Grady-White 265 Express with a private washroom, and all fishing gear is provided, so beginners can come along without any equipment of their own.
The standout is the combined whale watching and fishing trip. The company says it is the only tour in Campbell River that offers both on the same outing, trolling for salmon while keeping an eye out for whales. Groups are capped at six guests, which keeps the boat roomy and gives everyone time with the guide. The boat is Transport Canada approved and fully insured.
