About North Cascades Mountain Guides
North Cascades Mountain Guides is a professional guiding service based in Mazama at the head of the Methow Valley, offering backcountry skiing, rock climbing, mountaineering and avalanche education across the North Cascades and beyond. From its home turf around Washington Pass and the surrounding peaks, the company runs single-day outings, multi-day courses and international expeditions for a full spectrum of ability levels.
Their programs include guided backcountry and ski-mountaineering days at Washington Pass, Stevens Pass, Mount Baker and within North Cascades National Park, multi-pitch rock climbing at world-class venues like Washington Pass and Index, alpine mountaineering on peaks up to Mount Rainier, and AIARE Level 1, Level 2 and Rescue avalanche courses. They also teach crevasse rescue and glacier travel and lead guide-training programs, plus overseas expeditions to Japan, Norway and the European Alps.
All staff are trained and supervised by owners Larry Goldie, Jeff Ward and Joshua Cole, who are IFMGA-licensed mountain guides and AMGA instructors and examiners — the highest credential in the profession. Holding special-use permits across the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forests plus North Cascades and Rainier National Parks, they are one of the most respected and highly certified guide services in the Pacific Northwest.
