Yeti Tours rents Canadian canoes and kayaks for self-guided trips on the Whanganui River, run from Ward Street in Raetihi, just west of Ohakune. Trips last from two to eight days, and the team has been putting paddlers on the river for more than 25 years.
Each canoe comes with paddles, life jackets, waterproof barrels, maps and instructions; kayaks add a spray deck and dry bags. Tents can be rented too. The price covers the drive from Ohakune to the put-in at Taumarunui, Ohinepane or Whakahoro, the pickup at Pipiriki and safe parking for your car while you are on the river. DOC campsite and hut fees are extra, and solo paddlers are grouped with others.
